“ZIMA” WINS AWARD IN INDIA
The latest film by Tomek Popakul and Kasumi Ozeki – Zima – received the award for Best Animation at the Mumbai International Film Festival.
Zima shows no signs of stopping. After the recent awards in Lisbon and Zagreb, the film has now been noticed in India by the jury of the Mumbai International Film Festival. Magdalena Filipczuk from the Polish Institute in New Delhi received the Silver Conch award and trophy on behalf of the creators at the festival's Closing Gala, which took place on 21 June.
The Mumbai International Film Festival is among the oldest documentary, animated, and short film festivals in South Asia. Held every two years since 1990, the MIFF has flourished in terms of country participation, the quality of films, as well as preceding and accompanying events. It is organised by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India.
Zima is a mosaic portrait of a small fishing village, where man and man, man and animal, animal and animal are interdependent in a delicate balance of warm, tender care, and cold, emotional cruelty. It's an amazing story about loneliness and community in the spirit of magical realism.
