“LOVE_PROXY “ SELECTED FOR BALTICON IN USA
Marcin Niemkiewicz’s love_proxy will be presented in the film programme of Balticon, the world’s largest sci-fi and fantasy convention, held annually in Baltimore, USA. This year’s edition will take place from 22 to 25 May and will showcase independent short science fiction and fantasy films from around the world.
Niemkiewicz’s film has already had an impressive festival run. love_proxy won the Best Short Film Award at the Sci-Fi Short & TV Awards in San Francisco and the Blaue Blume Award 2025, received an award at the 25th Sopot Film Festival, and has previously been presented in Miami, Brussels, Lyon, Oslo, Mumbai and Kerala, among others.
love_proxy is a love story set in a world where a new invention – a robotic double – allows a person to be present in several places at once. The protagonist is Gniewko, a sensitive 27-year-old programmer who receives a robot at work that is an improved version of himself. Instead of using the invention for professional purposes, he tries to use the human-like machine to get closer to Lena, the woman he loves.
The presentation at Balticon marks another important step in the film’s international journey. love_proxy combines the science fiction genre with an intimate story about the longing for closeness, technology and emotions that cannot be easily programmed.
